Old-Fashioned Molasses Cookies












1 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
1 cup molasses
4 cups all-purpose flour
4 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ginger Granulated or turbinado sugar, for dipping

Preheat oven to 350F.

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and molasses.
Sift flour with cinnamon, baking soda, salt and ginger.
Add to sugar mixture and mix well.
Roll into balls the size of walnuts and coat with granulated or turbinado sugar.
Place on ungreased cookie sheets 2 inches apart.
Bake 12 to 15 minutes.
